Brief Description

This course emphasizes the study of folk, traditional and classical music of non-western cultures throughout the world including the music of North America (Native American and Blues), Africa, Central and Southeastern Europe (Poland), Asia (India, China, and Taiwan), Indonesia, South America (Chile, Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru) and the Arab world. Students will develop critical thinking, analytical, and listening skills in studying the development of non-western music including each culture’s music history, theory, structure, form, and unique style. This course is linked to Music Appreciation CP the study of western music.
