Visual Arts (CP)

Course Number: A391/A392
Typical Grade Level: 9-12

Brief Description

Visual Arts is a year-long beginning level visual arts course. Students will learn through teacher-led presentations, discussions and projects about the Elements and Principles of Design and how to implement them into a work of art. They will explore examples from art history, both historical and contemporary, and from multicultural contexts. They will learn art criticism, exploring contemporary ideas as they relate to art media and composition. Emphasis will be placed primarily on skill development, but units of study will also implement art career exploration, and other career-technical applications. Studio projects may explore interdisciplinary subjects. This knowledge and skill development will be assessed from each student through the creation of a portfolio.
