Brief Description

This course introduces the visual arts pertaining to drawing and design and how these elements are used in the culinary field. The course emphasizes the basic elements of art and develops the students’ skills in procedures, techniques, vocabulary, and skills in drawing and design. Students will use these skills in drawing and design to develop food plates that have rhythm, color, balance and texture. Students will have opportunity to create works in various mediums to enhance creative abilities through which students will be introduced to historical and multicultural motifs and themes. Through use of critiques, both by teacher and peers, students will display the ability to aesthetically value and appreciate works of art, as well as understand the relationship between art, culture, humanity, and history.
