Reading Techniques 10 is a course for students who continue to experience reading
problems. Students interact in small group and individualized activities designed to
improve their general reading skills. This class is designed to help students who are
reading between 6.0-7.5 grade levels to improve their reading skills to a grade 9/10 level
by focusing on the grade 6-8 Language Arts and Reading Content Standards. A variety of
strategies and materials will be used, focusing on increasing the student’s reading skills.
Students will develop their skills in the following areas: vocabulary and concept
development, reading comprehension of literature and informational text, literary
response and analysis, critical analysis of text, writing skills and application, writing to
improve reading, speaking and listening, and fluency in oral and silent reading.
