Brief Description

This course is designed as a bridge between high school math and life as an independent, working, contributing adult. The course will go over fundamental mathematical concepts such as the four basic operations over the set of real numbers, percents and measurement, while teaching the student adult survival skills. Skills such as critical thinking, reasoning, calculator usage, graphing and basic geometric, algebraic and arithmetic visualization and computation will be developed. Topics to be covered include tax preparation, personal finances, investments, daily living expenses, part-time and summer jobs, statistics and probability, and career-oriented skills, concepts and applications. Because of these topics, it is recommended that students have access to a basic calculator. In addition, teamwork and the development and reinforcement of study skills appropriate for the study of mathematics and, indeed, various other courses will be presented.
