Brief Description

This year-long course introduces the student to the basic materials, procedures, techniques, and skills used in painting. The visual art principles of design will be emphasized and developed through various painting projects throughout the year. Part A emphasizes the basic skills and techniques used in the following media: watercolor, acrylic, oil pastel, pastel, mixed media, oil paint and experimental materials. Basic drawing techniques will also be emphasized. Students will gain the ability to analyze the results of their work and that of others using the vocabulary of visual arts. In addition, students will be introduced to historical and cultural contributions to the world of painting. Part B introduces more complex painting design projects. Part B repeats the media used in Part A with emphasis on proficiency and mastery of painting techniques. Students will enhance their ability to analyze the results of their work and that of others using vocabulary of visual arts. In addition, students will increase their knowledge of historical and cultural contributors to the world of painting in both semesters.
