Brief Description

This course will stress advanced techniques of illustration, life drawing and portraiture using a variety of styles and media in the production of original artwork. Illustration will focus on the principles and elements of art in the rendering of subject matter. Students will explore the methods and styles of famous artists while understanding the historical contributions and cultural dimensions of their period. Life Drawing places emphasis on the study of anatomy and problem solving unique to rendering the human figure. Lighting, costume, and advanced drawing techniques are practiced with the use of live models. Students will learn to critique their own work and that of others and will prepare artwork for exhibit. Included is an exploration of art-related careers and employment opportunities.
