Brief Description

Visual Art Higher Level B is the second year of a two year diverse curriculum that is dedicated to expanding students’ critical and aesthetic horizons. Students may choose from a variety of media, with emphasis placed on further expanding individual growth and creative expression. Higher Level students have creative and imaginative abilities and most may pursue the visual arts at university or college level. This course allows students to demonstrate their mastery of the elements of design and the principles of art. Students will also explore artwork from various cultures and styles, past and present. Visual Art HL students will be able to aesthetically value, produce, and appreciate works of art through culture, humanity, and history. Visual Arts HL provides students with a real aesthetic experience. Students will refine and master skills in procedures, techniques, vocabulary, drawing and design. Students will be given an opportunity to further experiment and develop their style in various mediums and enhance creative abilities through introduction of studio works and procedures, and historical and multicultural exposure in the arts. During this second year, students will be preparing for their examination; gallery exhibition and an in-depth interview to communicate their message. Most importantly, students will be able to refine their own style, express thoughts, emotions, and ideas through their creative products and become life-long learners and activists in the arts. Successful completion of IB Visual Art HL/A is required.
