Honors Integrated Mathematics 2 MYP

Course Number: M051MY/M052MY
Initial Grade Level: 9-10

Students will learn number systems, coordinate geometry & systems, quadratic functions, probability, surface area/volumes and transformations using the MYP philosophy “to develop learners and internationally minded young people who can empathize with others and pursue lives of purpose and meaning” (Ib organization. “What Is the MYP?” International Baccalaureate®, https://www.ibo.org/programmes/middle-years-programme/what-is-the-myp/, 05/05/2022). The Honors course will dive deeper into complex numbers as well as probability (using the Multiplication rules, combinations and permutations as well as evaluating outcomes). Students will learn these concepts through investigations which guide to the discovery of mathematical rules, algorithms and procedures in collaborative groups. Students not only build mathematical skills and standards but also work on the literacy standards of reading, writing, speaking and listening as well through working in groups. Lastly, students will spend time reflecting on their learning and discussing with their peers as well which helps to deepen their understanding.
