Honors Integrated Math 3

Course Number: M271/M272
Initial Grade Level: 10

Integrated Mathematics 3 Honors is a grade 10 or 11 level math courses that integrates high school conceptual categories of Number and Quantity, Algebra, Function, Geometry, and Statistics and Probability into a two semester course.

It is in Math 3H that students pull together and apply the accumulation of learning that they have from their previous courses, with content grouped into five critical areas, organized into unit themes. Students expand their repertoire of functions to include logarithmic, polynomial, rational, and radical functions. Students bring together their experience with functions and geometry to create models and solve contextual problems. They expand their study of right triangle trigonometry to include general triangles. Students will describe geometric transformations and how it relates to equations, including those of conics. Lastly, they apply methods from probability and statistics to draw inferences and conclusions from data.

Moreover, instruction will provide students opportunities to increase their capacity to employ the Common Core Standards for Mathematical Practice (SMP): 1. Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them; 2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively; 3. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others; 4. Model with mathematics; 5. Use appropriate tools strategically; 6. Attend to precision; 7. Look for and make use of structure; and 8. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning. The Mathematical Practice Standards, together with the content standards, prescribe that students experience mathematics as a coherent, useful, and logical subject that makes use of their ability to make sense of problem situations.
