Honors Computer Science Colloquium

Initial Grade Level: 11-12

Honors Computer Science Colloquium will incorporate learning to develop skills and cultivate interest in the academic enterprise. This course will engage students with Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate curriculum focused on computer science topics of a conjunction course to deepen the understanding of the topics and solidify critical thinking and research skills. Through higher order thinking activities, students will participate in substantial reading and writing, develop oral and listening skills, and implement programming practices. Students will cover the major topics of Object-Oriented Program Design, Program Implementation, Program Analysis, Standard Data Structures, Standard Operations & Algorithms, and Computing in Context. Students will be provided with the opportunity to examine programming lines of code, algorithms, classes and computing ethics. In addition, students will be provided with exposure to applications in sorting and object oriented design when appropriate as part of the final project. Students will also be provided with the opportunity to develop analytical and interpretive skills, practicing constructed and selected response questions similar to items on high-stakes exams (e.g. Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, PSAT, SAT, CAASPP).
