Strong emphasis is placed on solving a variety of challenging problems and there is emphasis on analysis in the laboratory as well as in the classroom. The course gives an understanding of the composition and the chemical properties of matter. Laboratory work is an integral part of coursework. The intensive mathematical approach, the fast pace of content presentation, and the breadth and depth of material covered limit students in this course to those with demonstrated ability in algebra.
