French 3 (CP)

Course Number: WL141/WL142
Typical Grade Level: 11

Brief Description

French 3 begins with the main points covered in level two, then builds students’ skills to the intermediate proficiency level. It continues to deepen and expand students’ knowledge of the French language and culture. This course begins to formalize preparation for the Advanced Placement French Language and Culture exam. It furthers the four communication skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. The class emphasizes the teaching of skills required for effective communication at the intermediate level, including grammatical structures, high frequency vocabulary, correct pronunciation, and intonation. Oral and written activities, both with partners and in small groups, provide practice to develop these skills. Teachers engage students through differentiation. Teachers use a variety of materials and technology, such as textbooks, videos, documents, realia, audio materials, online language websites and computer software programs. Students also learn about French history and culture. They acquire an appreciation of various francophone cultures and foster global awareness. The class is conducted predominately in French.
