Brief Description

The written word can itself become artwork, and it can also be used beautifully and conceptually within artwork. This course will examine the art of calligraphy as it relates to the elements of art and the principles of design. Students will be provided a basic understanding of various hands of calligraphy and typefaces, as well as their histories in order to help aid in the development of innovative 21st century typographical designs. Students will be expected to complete sustained and deliberate practice of multiple letter forms in order to develop technical skills for major assignments.
