Brief Description

Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) Social Project Colloquium is an academic elective course that expands on AVID Elective in order to address social emotional needs and further prepare students for college and career readiness and success. This course is scheduled during the regular school day and taught for one quarter, after AVID students have taken the AVID Elective for the previous two quarters. This course is eligible to be repeated for credit. Each week, students receive instruction utilizing a rigorous college preparatory curriculum provided by AVID Center and its curriculum library, as well as supplemental course materials. Students will engage in tutor-facilitated study groups, strengthen communication skills, and academic success skills. In AVID Social Project Colloquium, students delve deeper into social emotional intelligence and community involvement, while also preparing for college, career, and life after high school. Students will participate in assignments and activities that incorporate strategies focused on supporting their personal, professional, and academic growth. Students will increase their awareness of their personal contributions to their learning, as well as their involvement in their school and community.
