Brief Description

The ninth grade AVID course is an elective class for students who are college bound. While concurrently enrolled in a college-prep course of study meeting the “a-g requirements” of UC/CSU, students will learn strategies to enhance their academic success. To ensure success in rigorous college-prep course work, students work individually, as well as in tutor-led collaborative groups. Note taking, outlining, writing, speaking, reading, test-taking strategies, collaborative work and self-awareness are stressed. In addition, the course includes college motivational activities such as college field trips, guest speakers from the professional world, etc. The AVID
Curriculum focuses on Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration and Reading strategies (WICR) through the AVID High School Libraries in both teacher and tutor led activities.
